FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions we as Sprinter technicians receive from customers.

Are your diagnoses always correct?

Here at Sprinter Tech Direct, we wish we could be on target with every diagnosis, but unfortunately we can’t guarantee that. However, we will work to the best of our ability to guide you in the right direction. Tele-diagnostics are currently being worked on by various manufacturers. They have the ability to see the vehicle’s faults and data that can lead them to their diagnoses. We are relying on you, the customer, to give us as much detail as possible. In turn, we hope to lead you to the correct diagnosis.

Can you recommend what solar panel system to use for my Stealth RV I’m building?

Unfortunately, we do not manage those modifications, so we can’t advise which would be best for your build. We only handle the MB chassis and engine parts of the Sprinters. However, located on our Friends tab, there are multiple Facebook groups that may be able to help.

My van is branded with Dodge. Does that make it a Dodge?

Technically, no, you have a Mercedes. You have it branded as a Dodge but it has Mercedes-Benz parts. The only difference between Dodge, MB, and Freightliners is that MB dealers cannot do recalls or programming on your van. This is due to the Chrysler & Daimler split.

What model is my Sprinter?

If your Sprinter is 2006 or older, then it would classify as a 903. If your Sprinter is a 2007 to 2018 model, then it would be classified as a 906. Models that range from 2019 to present would be considered a 907.

What kind of motor do I have?

The easiest way to tell is to follow this key based on your model year:

  • 2006 or older models (903) – 5 cylinder diesel
  • 2007-2013 models (642) – 6 cylinder diesel
      • 2010: Rare Sprinter containing a gas motor or a 276.
  • 2014-2016: Either 642 or 651 4-cylinder diesel motor
      • Easiest way to identify: Oil fill neck is mounted on air box
  • 2016-2018: ONLY 642 motors
  • 2019-2021: Either 642 or 274 gas motor or 651
      • Look for the gas label on the fuel door. (274 motor)
      • Red jump post on the passenger side of the air box. (651)
